28 June 2011 All is set for the departure of the 274-man FCT contingent to the 17th National Sports Festival (NSF) which begins on July 3 in Port Harcourt, the Rivers capital. Musa Alim, the FCT Director of Sports, said the contingent, made up of 192 athletes and 82 officials, would leave Abuja for Port Harcourt yesterday. Alim said that Dr Nathaniel Olunrufemi, the Permanent Secretary in the FCT, would address the athletes and officials at the Area 10 Sports Complex before their departure on Monday morning.

Morogoro — Rwandan giants APR head coach Erinie Brandts has expressed his disappointment over a decision by the TFF that his team should play their Kagame Castle Cup group stage matches here. Brandts said here yesterday that Morogoro’s Jamhuri Stadium was not suitable for the Kagame Cup champions.

“Jamhuri Stadium lacks some important amenities. Thus it’s unfair for the TFF to make it a venue for our group stage matches because we are the defending champions,” he said.

Brandts claimed that the Morogoro venue would affect his team’s performance in the regional tournament, which rolls into its third day today. Djibouti Port coach Mohamed Ahmed, whose team crashed to a painful 4-0 to APR in their first match on Sunday, had similar views.

He blamed the embarrassing defeat on what he claimed as ‘bumpy’ pitch, saying it forced his team to play below standard.
