President Dos Santos Receives Namibian Counterpart

    Luanda — The Angolan president, José Eduardo dos Santos, and his counterpart of Namibia, Hifikepunye Lucas Pohamba, met Monday in Luanda to analyse issues related to the strengthening of bilateral relations.

    It is the purpose of official working visit, which will end today, of Lucas Pohamba who is also the chairperson of the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC), a regional body that groups the two countries.

    Matters related to the Southern African region and others of common interests also centred the two-hour meeting.

    Before meeting president dos Santos, the Namibian statesman had visited the new City of Kilamba, located in Kilamba Kiaxi district, in Luanda, where he learnt about the original model of the construction project, and had the opportunity to visit some of the streets in that city centre.

    Lucas Pohama, who leaves Luanda tonight for London, UK, leads a high-level delegation of his government, composed of various ministers.

    The two neighbouring countries have excellent bilateral cooperation in various fields, especially in the areas of defence and security, transport, energy and water, tourism, trade and fisheries and there is also collaboration in the framework of common programmes approved at the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
