Liberia Government (Monrovia) 2 June 2011 President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf on Thursday called upon all Liberians, irrespective of political affiliation, religion and gender, to rally around the Lone Star Football Team when it goes against Cape Verde on Sunday, June 5, in a qualifying match of the African Cup of Nations Tournament, taking place at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex, in Paynesville. The President was informed that, due to the importance of the game, the Liberia Football Association (LFA) has recalled a select number of former Lone Star players from the famous "George Weah Eleven" to add experience and beef up the National Team. "I commend the LFA for this decision and hope that those being recalled will perform to the expectation of the Liberian people and, ultimately, bring victory on Sunday," the President stated, according to an Executive Mansion press release.
