Luanda — The secretariat of ruling MPLA party’s Politburo expressed dismay over the death of Tala Ngongo Totoy Monteiro, a former combatant in national liberation struggle, occurred on 11 June in Luanda, victim of disease.
According to the MPLA’s note sent Saturday to Angop, Totoy Monteiro was a convinced militant of the ruling party, who since early took part in clandestine struggle against Portuguese colonialism.
Born on 2 August 1941, Tony Monteiro dedicated, over the last years, to the sports, with stress to the teams of Clube Atlético and later on Atlético Petróleos de Luanda “Petro Atlético”.
He was also leading actor of the famous “Sambizanga” film, along with Ludy Kissassunda and Yayá, (Domingos Xavier).
“At this moment of pain and mourning the secretariat of Politburo, on behalf of militants, sympathisers and friends of MPLA, bow down before the memory of Totoy Monteiro and expresses the most heart felt condolences to the bereaved family and Petro team”, reads the note.
