More information is still being uncovered about Phillip Machemedze, said to be either a former CIO agent or police officer under Mugabe's regime. Machemedze made headlines earlier this year when it was revealed that during his UK asylum appeal he admitted shocking acts of torture and brutality on suspected MDC members in Zimbabwe.

Africa 10,000m gold medallist Wilson Kiprop is confident of making the Kenya team to the world championships in Daegu, South Korea. Kiprop said he has set his sights on the August’s global event, where he intends to race in his 10,000m specialty. Kiprop has already attained the qualifying mark and his focus is to make the cut during the National Trials at Nyayo Stadium next month. Kiprop clocked an impressive 27.26.07 minutes during the 2010 African athletic Championships in Nairobi to dip under the 27.40.00 qualifying mark for the men’s 10,000m race. “I know I have qualified for the World Championships but the national trials will determine my fate for Daegu show,” he said.

Kiprop, who is coached by the Italian Renato Canova and Gabriele Nicola, also specialises in half marathon and has a personal best time of 59:39 minutes. At the 2010 IAAF World Half Marathon in Nanning, China, Kiprop defending champion Zersenay Tadese of Eritrea to break his four-year unbeaten run. “Beating a world champion was a great achievement for me. As long as I qualify for Daegu event, my opponents should brace up for a real fight,” he said.
