Gambia Joined rest of the World to commemorate Olympic day at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.

Olympic Day, is a day set aside to observe the dream of Pierre De Cubertin, a French pedagogue and historian, founder of the International Olympic Committee, and considered father of the modern Olympic Games.

Born into a French aristocratic family, he became an academic and studied a broad range of topics, most notably education and history.

Delivering a statement on the event, president of International Olympic Committee Jacque Rogge, dwelled on Cubertin’s Misson.

“He wanted to teach the World the basic human values-embodied in sport-that would enable us all to lead better lives and to build better communities” IOC president Rogge said in a statement.

“This day gives us all a chance not just to celebrate that vision, but to do so by joining together in activities in every corner of the world” he elucidated

Sounding the voice of Gambia National Olympic Committee’s development officer Modou Lamin Demba, said: “. Basically is just to celebrate the founding of modern Olympic”.

Enumerating further, he added, “If u could recall, it used to be sponsored by coca-cola at the Gambega gate. But now coca-cola contract with IOC has stop and now IOC has a new contract. MacDonnell’s an unfortunately for the Gambia we don’t have any such here”
