SC Villa’s aspirations of forming a strong partnership with United Arab Emirates Premier League club Al Wasl FC have received a boost after bosses of both institutions met in Dubai last week.

Villa head Fred Muwema, who left for UAE on June 2 before returning last Wednesday, and Al Wasl chairman Marwan Juma Bin Beyat met in Dubai and discussed a wide range of ways on forging a working relationship.”We discussed grooming talent at Villa and preparing players for professional moves to UAE, from where they would venture into Europe,” Muwema told Daily Monitor on arrival.

“For now the important thing is we managed to open official links. Everything now is official on club level between Villa and Al Wasl. No middle men. “I met with their chairman (Bin Beyat), who is a young guy and very enterprising at only 29. I explained to him in detail the Villa project and he was impressed and interested.”

News of Villa’s Arab connection first filtered in three weeks ago when Al Sowaidi Sultan Humaid, Al Wasl’s representative, visited Jogoos at their offices in Muyenga. Humaid, at the same visit, revealed Al Wasl’s interest in constructing Villa a stadium worth $10m (Shs23b).

Villa have not won a trophy since 2004 and the arrival of the Arabs gives them revival hopes.
