8 June 2011 The inclusion of the President of the Liberian Council of Churches (LCC), Bishop David Daniels, on the campaigners’ list of the ruling Unity Party (UP) had raised questions about the integrity and political neutrality of the Christian umbrella group. Consequently, UP withdrew the LCC president’s name from the list. But observers say the withdrawal itself leaves behind another fundamental question: “Was the bishop’s inclusion a political misstep, or has it made him a victim of proletariat tyranny?” The Analyst has been finding out.

Citizens of Bong County, in central Liberia, have demonstrated their support for Cllr. Charles W. Brumskine and Sen. Franklin Siakor of the opposition Liberty Party (LP) over the weekend.

The manifestation was actualized when the Political Leader of the opposition Liberty Party, Cllr. Charles W. Brumskine, was led by his presidential running mate, Bong County Junior Sen. Franklin Siakor on a tour of cities, towns, and villages in the county to present the Liberty Party’s 2011 election ticket.

Mr. Brumskine told citizens of Bong County, who gathered in various localities to welcome the Liberty Party delegation, that the party was in full readiness to transform Liberia when elected in the 2011 elections.

He however noted that the dream of redeeming Liberians from every form of backwardness that they continue to experience under the ruling Unity Party regime could only be achieved when the people of Bong County demonstrate their support through their votes in the 2011 elections.

Hundreds of thousands of well wishers and supporters of LP, who lined up at every street corner, road, and pathway, entertained the two LP senior partisans with dancing, singing, and cheering as they toured one area after another.

The opposition leader, Cllr. Brumskine told several thousands of Bong County citizens, partisans, supporters, as well as wishers of the party in the county, that he has gone to the county along with their son, Sen. Siakor in order for the people of the county to join hands in their presidential bid by helping to support their candidacy in the 2011 General and Presidential Elections in Liberia.

Cllr. Brumskine said that the citizens should give them their support and helping hands in order to give the incumbent leader, President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, a safe retirement exit visa from the Executive Mansion.

He said that at the age of 77 years, the President needed to be retired because, according to him, she would lack the potential to work actively in the interest of the Liberian people during a second term.

Cllr. Brumskine told Bong County Citizens that if they elect him and their son Sen. Franklin Siakor as president and vice president of Liberia, he would lobby for the changing of some laws that would retire anybody who becomes 75 years old not to run for presidency in Liberia.

The LP political leader reiterated that good things were about to happen but that only an LP-led government could explore those opportunities that would better the lives of Liberians at every sector.

For his part, Bong County junior senator and vice standard-bearer of the Liberty Party, Franklin O. Siakor, said he and Mr. Brumskine has gone to the county to introduce him (Brumskine) officially as the political leader of the party to the people of the county.

Mr. Siakor indicated that their visit was meant to inform the citizens about the party’s determination to transform the Liberian society to benefit both the people of Bong County and Liberia in general.

He urged his kinsmen to rally around Mr. Brumskine and the Liberty Party so that they could win a landslide victory in the elections and take over state power for the benefit of not only the citizens of Bong County but for the benefit of every Liberian in the country.

The towns, villages, and cities in Bong County, which Messrs Brumskine and Siakor covered included Gbenequwelle in Sheanbue Clan, Torquewelleh District, Belefana, Naama,Tamay-ta, and Gbanshay Clan in Jorquelleh District, among others.
