Students of Ladela Secondary School, Abuja, yesterday launched a mini technological station to monitor fluctuations in weather condition as part of the activities to mark World Environment Day. The station which has a wind vane as its major gadget, was constructed by the newly formed school’s environment club and school’s administration in order to teach students the techniques used in climate change assessments.

A 31-year-old security guard has been sentenced to one month imprisonment for stealing two bags of cement from a site belonging to one Agboade Adeshina.

Jonathan Tiyukwu of Grace Land Estate, Lugbe, was convicted for theft, an offence punishable under Section 288 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Inspector Jeremiah Elijah, told the court that on May 22, the complainant reported at Lugbe Police Station that the accused was caught stealing two bags of cement valued at N4,400 from his site.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged for leniency, while the prosecutor asked for summary trial.

Magistrate Omolola Oladipo convicted the accused and sentenced him to one month imprisonment or to pay N500 as fine.

In another case, a 25-year-old man was last Friday sentenced to two months’ imprisonment for causing injury to one Abdulhakeem Tajudeen.

Aminu Mohammed of Tudunwada village, Abuja, was convicted for causing hurt, an offence punishable under Section 246 of the Penal Code.

Police prosecutor, Paul Anigbo, told the court that on May 30, the complainant reported at Lugbe Police Station that he stopped a motorcycle on three occasions to convey him to Tudun Wada from FHA, Lugbe but the accused prevented the cyclists from carrying him. He said when the complainant demanded why the accused was preventing cyclists from carrying him, the accused brutalised and injured him on his left hand.

“During police investigation, the accused confessed to the crime,” the prosecutor said.

When the charge was read to the accused, he pleaded guilty and begged the court for leniency.

Magistrate Aliyu Shaffa sentenced the accused to two months imprisonment or to pay N1,000 as fine.
