Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Ivy Okoronkwo, told newsmen in Owerri, on Thursday, that the measure was to ensure peaceful, free and fair supplementary elections. It will be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had rescheduled the supplementary elections in Ngor Okpala, Mbaitoli, Ohaji/Egbema and Oguta council areas, as well as Orji Ward, Owerri North, where the April 26 elections were inconclusive.

Ghana coach Goran Stevanovic says the presence of Michael Essien in the Black Stars squad will lift the side to a new level after recent successes of the team.

The Black Stars have the chance to extend their fine run under the Serbian boss who makes his home debut when they host Congo on Friday.

But attention will be on Essien who returns to the squad after a 16-month absence.

Stevanovic has been on the player’s traces since taking charge in February.

The Serbian coach says Essien will be key if the Black Stars are to meet expectations.

“We need all of our best players if we want to meet the target of winning trophies and Michael Essien is one of those players.”

Stevanovic leads his charges to Brazzaville with an intention of grabbing a win thus an automatic qualification for the competition.
