Wolves defender Jody Craddock is expected to be offered a one-year contract after helping them to Premier League safety following his comeback.

Craddock, who turns 36 in July, missed much of the season with injuries including a hip complaint but played a crucial role when he returned in April.

Wolves manager Mick McCarthy said: “We will be offering Jody a new contract.

“He came back in to great effect and I think his experience was vital at the end of the season.”

Craddock, whose current deal expires this summer, is now poised to extend his Molineux stay to a ninth year. He has made 234 appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals.

Speaking about the run-in last season, McCarthy said: “Some of the lads had played a lot of games and it just maybe started to affect them. And Jody scored a goal at Sunderland as well.

“He really had struggled with his hip and I’ve always got great store in the physios and medical team because they have helped him get back.

“That was an injury though – apart from that, he is as fit as anybody and does everything that everybody else does.

“Jody is remarkable and a fine example to everyone. He never asks for a day off, he’s out playing head tennis in training and in doing his gym work.”

Chief executive Jex Moxey added: “Given what Jody has done this past year, he is worth a new deal. He brings more to the club than what we see on the pitch as well with his leadership, professionalism and stability.

“He is everything Wolves are about these days. He is very much a Wolves man now and his value to the club extends beyond what he gives to the team.”
