Nairobi — The rallying fraternity on Sunday lost one of its most enthusiastic competitors in a road accident along the Naivasha-Nairobi highway at around 9am.

The cause of the head-on collision between Kenya National Rally Championship driver Randeep Singh Lochab’s vehicle with a saloon car could not be immediately established but his close friend described the scene of the accident as “really nasty”.

Lochab was on his way to testing his N10 Subaru and was headed to Soysambu, having just left the Delamere petrol station, when the accident occurred.

Asif Saddique, a trainee navigator who was in the co-driver’s bucket seat, suffered spinal and jaw injuries.

Lochab was born in Eldoret in 1982 to a famous rallying family but relocated to Nairobi to assist in their business.

Ravi Soni, Lochab’s close friend and former navigator, expressed shock at the news: “Randeep was actually a very kind-hearted and determined guy.”
