Nairobi — The implementation of new rules and regulations is to blame for the feud in Amateur Boxing Association of Kenya (ABA), Samson Mwangi Mugacha said on Sunday.
He insisted that he has not been suspended as chairman by the ABA executive committee.
He said: “I am still in office as the action purported to have been taken on me was unconstitutional. It is only the ABA full council which can suspended an official.
“I have not received any communication from the acting secretary-general to that effect.”
On the charges of misappropriation of funds, he said he does not handle ABA’s money and that a special general meeting convened by secretaries of nine associations affiliated to ABA on June 17 in Nairobi will set the record straight.
Ganged up to oust him
Mugacha said effective March 30 the International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) prohibits one from being coach, referee or judge, or ABA executive at the same time. He said those affected had ganged up to oust him but in vain.
The affected executives, he said, include the acting SG, Isaac Mbote, John Wachira (assistant treasurer), George “Foreman” Onyango (treasurer), Patrick “Mont” Waweru (competition secretary), Patrick Maina (committee member) and co-opted committee members David Munuhe and John Waweru, “who are all active referees and judges.”
