Diego Forlan has advised Manchester United target David de Gea to join the Old Trafford club.
The Atletico Madrid forward, who had a disappointing spell in Manchester, has hailed Sir Alex Ferguson as a “legend” and says the club were always very supportive despite his lack of goals for the Red Devils.
He was quoted as saying in The Sun: “David is a very good keeper with a bright future. He asked my advice about moving to United and we talked about it a lot.”
The Uruguay international, who scored 17 goals in just under 100 appearances for the club, added: “It is a great place to experience as a player.
“The manager is a legend, the staff are all really good and the fans were always very supportive of me, even when I wasn’t scoring.”
De Gea, 20, has made over 50 appearances for Atletico Madrid and looks set to join United this summer as a replacement for Edwin van der Sar, who will retire after Saturday’s Champions League final against Barcelona.
