Sheriff inaugurates transition panel

GOVERNOR Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno State yesterday inaugurated a 16-member transition committee with the Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Alhaji Zanna Mallam Gana, as the chairman.

Inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Maiduguri, the governor said the panel comprising commissioners, special advisers and representatives of the Joint Military/Police Taskforce, was to ensure a hitch-free transition at the Democracy Day celebration slated for May 29 at the Ramat Square.

He said other terms of reference of the transition committee were to ensure the security of lives and property during and after the inauguration of the state governor-elect, Alhaji Kashim Shettima, of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

The director for security in the Maiduguri Government House, Umar Zanna, will serve as the secretary of the committee.
