Sir Alex Ferguson would take Cristiano Ronaldo back to Manchester United tomorrow if the opportunity arose, according to legendary Italian coach Marcello Lippi.

The Portuguese superstar has enjoyed the most prolific season of his illustrious career at Real Madrid, netting 53 times in all competitions and breaking the all-time record for goals in a single Spanish league campaign.

Ronaldo’s virtuoso displays and clinical finishing have attracted praise from across the footballing world, and Lippi revealed his close friend Ferguson told him he would welcome the former United forward back at Old Trafford.

“Sir Alex told me he would take Ronaldo back tomorrow,” the 63-year-old World Cup winner told The Sun.

Lippi also admitted he shares Ferguson’s admiration for the 26-year-old’s versatility and match-winning capabilities.

“We both think he is an extraordinary striker who can start on either wing, or as the sole striker and perform brilliantly,” he added.

“But the truly remarkable thing about Cristiano is that he always scores.”
