Jonathan Promises Cabinet Soon After Inauguration

But for the National Assembly which comes on stream on June 6, 2011, President Goodluck Jonathan said he would have formed his cabinet earlier than will presently obtain.

He has however assured that his team will be in place not later than two weeks after May 29 swearing in date.

This is as he has promised Nigerian youths that he will not scrap the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) while he will be a leader and not a ruler as his style of leadership will place the interest of the people especially youths who constitute greater part of the population first in decisions and policies.

Jonathan said in Lagos when John Rice, Vice Chairman of General Electric company led a delegation to him in State House, Marina that there was need for him to move fast to provide succour and good leadership for the people who need to live improved lives.

He told the delegation that he wanted to start early to work on power and rail transportation where he wants to leave legacies he would be remembered for.

“I want the next four years to be very beneficial to Nigerians and for effective delivery of democracy dividends and not for talking. I promised myself to pick the few things I can do and say that these are what I have done,” he said.

The President justified his interest in revamping the rail system as our roads will hardly last if the huge load tonnages through truck transportation was not taken off it.

Another approach he said his government will adopt include extending rail lines to places where bulk goods like cement were manufactured as a way to ease pressure from the roads.

Jonathan commended as welcome, plans by GE to train manpower for rail system for Nigeria asked them to do more by building centers for maintenance of electricity turbines and transformers in the country to serve the sub-region.

Responding, rice expressed the readiness of his company to do business with the country especially in they have signed Memorandum of Understanding like oil and gas, rail, energy and health care sectors.
