Luanda — The German Chancellor Angela Merkel is due to visit Angola on 13-14 July aiming at the strengthening of cooperation ties between the two countries, said Monday, in Luanda, the European country’s ambassador, Jorg Wermer Marquardi.

The German diplomat made the announcement to the Angolan press at the end of an audience granted to him by the Angolan Foreign Affairs minister, Georges Rebelo Chicoty, with whom he prepared the agenda for the trip of the German leader.

He said that as part of her stay in Angola, which responds to a visit in 2009 to Germany by the President of Angola Jose Eduardo dos Santos, there will be signed two diplomas, including a Memorandum of Understanding on strategic partnership and a cultural agreement.

He revealed that the Chancellor of Europe’s biggest economy will meet with president Jose Eduardo dos Santos and will leave Angola on July 14th, bound for Nigeria.

He said the visit of Angela Merkel will be preceded by a meeting of Angolan and German businesspeople in order to strengthen, more and more, the cooperation in trade sphere, and beyond.

“German industry has a great interest in investing in Angola,” said the diplomat, highlighting the potential that the Southern African country has in terms of oil, natural resources and agriculture.
