Turkey coach Guus Hiddink still advising Chelsea and is also wanted by Ajax and PSV

In-demand Dutch tactician Guus Hiddink has revealed that he is combining his job as coach of the Turkish national team with an ongoing advisory role for Chelsea, and has also been approached by both Ajax and PSV to advise them.

Hiddink managed Chelsea on a temporary basis during the second half of the 2008-09 season, and after winning the FA Cup with the Blues, stepped down from his caretaker role at Stamford Bridge to see out his contract as Russia’s coach, before taking up a similar role with Turkey in February 2010.

But he has been continuing to advise Chelsea for the last two years, an admission he made in his weekly column in De Telegraaf while revealing that Ajax and PSV are also seeking his services.

“Everything is doing well with Chelsea,” he wrote. “When I left there 18 months ago, I advised the club from that moment to recruit well. Now they are busy with such matters and now and then, I take part in that process. It takes up little time and therefore it goes well with my job with the Turkish national team.”

Hiddink has strong links with PSV, but explained that Ajax legend Johan Cruyff contacted him ahead of the Eindhoven club.

“Being an advisor to a club of the stature of PSV, Ajax and Chelsea is not something you can do on a casual basis. I have said the same thing to PSV director Tiny Sanders, when he spoke to me about the matter. Of course a telephone call is always possible but working in an official capacity is something else.

“Above all else, Johan Cruyff called before him. He called me before to ask me to sit on Ajax’s board. It seems like a nice challenge for me although there are some issues with the practicalities of everything. Such a role would be less complicated that that of an advisor.”

Although Hiddink has coached PSV on two separate occasions, having previously been a player and assistant coach, he has an apartment in the centre of Amsterdam and could be open to working with the newly-crowned Eredivisie champions.

“In the same way, Cruyff contacted me to go through all what could be practically possible but for me a role on the board did not appeal. We remain in contact with eachother because I trust Johan 100 percent. Nothing more and nothing less.”
