Manchester City boss Roberto Mancini will reportedly confirm that Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen has signed a deal to join the Eastlands this week, according to reports.
The 24-year-old has been coveted by Arsenal and AC Milan but City has landed a contract with the centre half on a £8 million fee.
According to News of the World, Vertonghen has impressed Mancini for his flexibility on the pitch since he can also be sharp in the left of the defensive line.
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger was planning to pair up Thomas Vermaelen at the back but City have attempt to spoiled the Gunners’ plans.
City therefore brushes off speculations of spending huge amounts on players this summer as chairman Khaldoon al Mubarak is adamant there will be no astronomical expenditure on players.
Other players on target for City are Leighton Baines and Jack Rodwell from Everton although the Eastlands are unwilling to spend £20 millon on the young midfielder who has yet to impress.
