AMID mounting allegations of corruption and profligacy levelled against his administration, Governor Christopher Adebayo Alao-Akala has said he is not afraid of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) because he has nothing to hide. Alao-Akala, who spoke against the backdrop of media reports (The Guardian not included) that he is being haunted by the anti-graft agency, told the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in the state, who visited him yesterday in Ibadan that “I have nothing to hide and will stop at nothing to protect my good name”

Nigeria’s Super Eagles were Wednesday overtaken by South Africa in the latest FIFA World Rankings released yesterday. The Super Eagles, who ranked fourth place in the April Rankings for Africa, swapped places with the Bafana Bafana to slide a place to the fifth in the latest May grading carried out by the world governing body, FIFA.

At the world level, Nigeria occupies the 39th position, a place below Bafana Bafana

However, there was no movement at the top with the Black Stars of Ghana still leading the African rankings, followed by Cote d’Ivoire and Egypt. Senegal (40th, up 11), have made greater headway, clawing their way back into the top 50 for the first time since January 2009.

Interestingly, world champions, Spain retain her hold at the top with no change on the top 10. The champions are followed by Netherlands, Brazil, Germany and Argentina.

Only seven international ‘A’ matches, all of them friendlies, have been played since the previous edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. Consequently, there have not been any changes among the leading pack.

UEFA continues to be the best-represented confederation in the top 50, with 29 teams, followed by CAF (9 teams), CONMEBOL (6), the AFC (4), CONCACAF (3) and the OFC (0). The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Ranking will be published on 29 June 2011.
