The past weekend was a busy one for the police in Windhoek, as they foiled three break-ins and recovered stolen goods worth more than N$350 000.
On Saturday evening NamPol officers arrested two suspects in a burglary at a cellphone shop in the city centre, where officers confiscated 72 watches and 56 cellphones from the suspects.
The Windhoek City Police arrested three suspects on Saturday when they allegedly broke into TrenTyre in the Southern Industrial Area and tried steal tyres and cash.
Also on Saturday, NamPol recovered eight computers, two laptops and other computer hardware when they arrested one suspect following a burglary at the Government Institutions Pension Fund (GIPF) offices in Windhoek. The value of the goods recovered was N$195 000.
NamPol Deputy Commissioner Adreas Nelumbu said on Monday that more arrests will likely be made following an investigation into the GIPF burglary.
Police also recovered a number of stolen computers and laptops valued at approximately N$135 000 in the Okahandja Park informal settlement on the outskirts of Katutura. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the stolen goods.
On Monday four suspects were arrested after an armed robbery of a cash-in-transit van and a shootout with the police.
The four will appear in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court in Katutura today on charges of armed robbery and attempted murder.
