John Malam, 40, and Ismaila Abdullahi, 18, all of Mabushi village, were convicted for attempting to commit an offence contrary to Section 95 of the Penal Code.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Abdul Alhassan, told the court that on May 16, one Inspector Chris Akakuma and his team arrested the accused persons while on patrol along VIO office at Mabushi.
He said the accused persons used a ladder to climb a PHCN pole and attempted to connect an electric wire from their house to the pole.
When the charge was read to the accused persons, they pleaded guilty and informed the court that they did not know that their actions amounted to a criminal offence.
Magistrate Aliyu Shaffa in his ruling told the accused persons that whoever in a dishonest manner diverts, consumes, obstructs electric current, commits theft, adding that ignorance is not an excuse in law.
The magistrate sentenced them to jail or to pay N1,000 each as fine options.
