Media Ministry Trains Guinea Bissau’s Journalists

Luanda — The Ministry of Mass Media (MCS) of Angola promotes from Wednesday, in Bissau, an intensive training programme for the West African country’s journalists, as part of the cooperation relations between Angola and Guinea Bissau, said an official source that Angop had got access, on Monday in Luanda.

The source said the mission of MCS to that country will be headed by national director of Information, José Luis de Matos, and will include the Director-General of the Training Centre for Journalists (CEFOJOR), Albino Carlos.

The 15-day training will be guided by professionals Albino Carlos, Carlos Calongo, Joaquim Paulo, Vital Dias, Jose Alves and Mariana Ribeiro.

The training action seeks to empower and enhance the Guinean journalist class, refreshing and consolidating their skills to promote a more active professional conscience and prepare them in order to play their full role, also equip them, for the purpose of knowledge and necessary techniques.

Assessing the readiness level of local journalists in terms of compliance of norms related to the professionalism and respect for journalistic and professional ethics, are also the objectives of the initiative.

It also aims to promote exchange of experiences and information between Angolan and Guinean journalists, about a better professional performance in the context of cooperation between the two Portuguese-speaking countries.

The completion of the course aims also to prepare the professionals of the country in terms of expression, presentation of news programs and radio and TV as well as mastery of basic technical issues of journalism.

In essence, the course will focus on basic issues of journalistic practice, enabling Guinean practitioners to review their main technical professional difficulties, empowering them and consolidating their knowledge.

In a second phase, journalists of Guinea-Bissau will receive training in CEFOJOR, here, and should take practical lessons in the Angolan News Agency (ANGOP), National Radio (RNA), Public Television (TPA ) and the daily newspaper Jornal de Angola.

During its stay in Bissau, the Angolan delegation should start a memorandum between the Public Television of Angola and Guinea broadcaster.

To remind, the Angolan minister of Mass Media, Carolina Cerqueira, signed last March, in Bissau, with her local counterpart, Maria Adiatu Djaló Nandigna, a Verbal Process of Cooperation.

In the signed document, Angola is proposed, initially, to provide technical assistance to public agencies and, second, provide technical support to the Guinean government to assist the private agents.

With regard to public media – No Pintcha Journal, National Broadcasting (RDN), Television of Guinea-Bissau (TGB) and the News Agency of Guinea (ANG) – the Verbal Process establishes the exchange of news, training, equipping, support technique, study tours and internships on management and modernization of the bodies, archives, advertising, among other things.
