West Ham manager Avram Grant hopes he never has to fight relegation again

West Ham manager Avram Grant has said that despite his side being bottom of the Premier League nothing is over yet – and expressed the hope that he never has to face another relegation fight.

The Hammers have been in a battle against relegation all season, and with time running out to save their top-flight status Grant insists they can still survive.

“Nothing is over until it’s over. Let’s speak when we see what has happened,” Grant said in an article in The Guardian.

“I don’t like to speak about myself but I did something that nobody expected me to do before – not in Portsmouth and not in Chelsea.

“Here they expect me to stay in the league and I want to do it. I hope I never have to experience this again fighting relegation.”

West Ham could face the drop this weekend if results go against them, though the Israeli says his team-talk will be no different than in other weeks.

“Let’s do our job. We need to do our job because everybody thinks about the other results.

“We play against a team in a match which is very, very important for them and they are good. So we need first to do our job in their home – we didn’t do it yet – and then let’s think about the other results.”

West Ham chairman David Sullivan has often openly shared his views on his team’s battle against the drop, though Grant says he is happy. And despite reaching Champions League and FA Cup finals in his managerial career, Grant believes surviving the drop this season will be his greatest achievement.

“David is always positive when he comes here, very positive about everything that’s happening.

“I think I would be happy more than at any time in my life – my professional life. I have a lot of happy days in football.

“If you remember the last games in Portsmouth FA Cup final and in Chelsea Champions League final most of the supporters came to these games, it was in Moscow, it was in Wembley, so many were so happy. I want the supporters from West Ham to feel the same at the end of the season.”
