President Wants Probe Into GH¢90m Transfer Claim

The President, Professor John Evans Atta Mills, has directed the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and the security agencies to institute immediate investigations into claims by a friend of the Rawlingses that he had picked up a security tape which suggested that GH¢90 million was being transferred to boost President Mills’s chances for the

flagbearership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The man making the claim is Mr Herbert Mensah, a former football administrator.

Mr Mensah alleged on an Accra-based private radio station that he had picked up a security tape which suggested that GH¢90 million was being transferred to boost President Mills’s chances for the flagbearership of the party.

However, the President has denied the claim and called for a thorough probe to help unravel the truth or otherwise of Mr Mensah’s allegations.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic in Accra, President Mills repeated his strong aversion for ‘moneycracy’ in politics, stressing, “We have chalked up successes in our political dispensation based on our integrity and the determination to be our brother’s keeper.”

He said if he had a budget of that whooping sum of money he would have invested it in his Ghana Better agenda but not a contest which he had already won.

He pledged to pursue values and beliefs that could bring Ghanaians together and set examples that could be emulated by all.

“I will strive, at all times, for the truth, even if it sounds unpalatable. We have to protect a legacy that will last for many years,” he said.

President Mills affirmed his call for a clean campaign devoid of insults and mudslinging which would be counter-productive to the aspirations of the NDC.

“Our duty from now is to build on the successes we have chalked up and improve the lives of the majority of our people. I am still committed to the rule of law and I will not plunge the country into disaster or danger,” he pledged.

The President said he would remain focused on his mandate to improve the lives of Ghanaians and prosecute his ‘Better Ghana’ agenda.

He recalled the giant strides made by the government on the economic front, particularly micro-economic development, the reduction in inflation, agriculture, infrastructural development dotted across the country, among other interventions.

‘These and many in the offing for the majority of our people are our preoccupation now and with God on our part we shall succeed,’ he stressed.
