His charred body, identified as that of Michael Kofi Komanyor, was found by a security man in front of the shop belonging to a family member.
Komanyor was said to have battled with tuberculosis (TB) for a number of years now. He left behind two suicide notes — one written at the back of a photograph of himself, while the other was written at the back of a photograph of his estranged wife.
The note written at the back of his photograph reads: “Dear Aunt, This is Kofi Komanyor my last words to you. I want to thank you Aunt Grace Komanyor, Emma Kumayor, Peter Agbozo and his juniors for the great work done to survive Kofi’s life. But I me what I see is different the medicines are not helping me and I am suffering everyday and every night without any success so I will say a very good bye to you all, Amen. Bye Kofi Kumayor.”
The note at the back of his wife’s photograph also reads: “ Comfort mother, Aunt I have seen everything I am suffering from the sickness and it will not go so lets forget about the hospital I will die, I kill myself, Bye.”
According to the Crime Officer of the Tesano Divisional Police Command, ASP Stephen Donyina-Kyereme, about 12:30 a.m. on May 9, 2011, the police received a report that the deceased had been found burnt in front of a store at Abelemkpe.
He said police personnel were dispatched to the spot where they found the charred remains of the deceased.
He said information later received by the police indicated that the deceased had been suffering from tuberculosis for a number of years now.
ASP Donyina-Kyereme said Komanyor was a chain smoker, a factor which might have prevented the various medicines given to him from working effectively.
He said the shop where the body was discovered belonged to a cousin of the deceased and when the shop was opened a photograph of the deceased had been pushed under the door.
He said behind the photograph was Komanyor’s first suicide note, while the other suicide note was found in his room.
The body has been deposited at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy, while investigations go on.
