Two people were seriously injured yesterday in clashes between Somali and Orma communities in Chakama ranch, Malindi district. The two communities have been fighting over grazing land.
The Orma community is said to have driven more than 300 head of cattle into the ranch leased by the Somali community prompting a fight. The two injured men are from the Somali community. Tension is high at the ranch as the community has vowed to revenge. The victims were rushed to the Malindi District Hospital and are still undergoing treatment.
The area DO said security has been intensified in the area to restore clam.”There is tension in the area because the Somalis are said to have threatened to revenge but I have dispatched security officers to ensure there chaos,” she said.
The DO said they have formed two peace committees composed of elders from both communities to resolve the matter amicably. She said one of the victims was in critical condition while the other was responding well to treatment at the district hospital.
