BOSTON marathon winner Seline Kosgei has vowed to battle for top honours during the Rift Valley inter-zonal Prisons athletics championship at Afraha Stadium, Nakuru on Friday.
Kosgei will lead the women team in both 5,000m and 10,000m women while Commonwealth 10,000m Bronze medalist Joseph Birech will be out to record an impressive performance in the men’s 5,000m and 10,000m category.
Kosgei who trains in Kaptagat, Iten has vowed to improve her time and earn selection to Kenya teams. “I’m in good form and currently training to improve my time at the Friday championship. I’m not leaving anything to chance. I cannot afford to underrate my arc rivals,” she said.
David Keny, the Prisons co-ordinator said the one-day event to be graced by the Rift Valley Provincial Prisons Commandant John Nkiria will feature four zones from the region.
He said he was expecting stiff competition as top seeded athletes as they have vowed to record sterling performance for their teams.
He said the event is aimed at selecting a strong team to represent the region during the Kenya Prisons Inter-Provincial athletics championship slated for next month at the Nyayo Gymnasium. “I urge all athletes to expose their talents and improve their time. They should attain the Olympic Qualification mark for them to book a berth to the next level,” he said.
