Mr Lawrence Tweneboa-Kodua, Asante-Akim South District Director
of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), said being the
basic law of the land it was imperative for every citizen to get
adequately informed about its content to be able to protect the rights
and freedoms of the individual and also prevent its abuse.
Mr Tweneboa-Kodua was speaking at the District launch of the 11th
Annual Constitution Week Celebration at Banka near Ofoase in the
Ashanti Region.
It is on the theme: “The State of Ghana’s Democracy 2011.”
The NCCE District Director said the citizenry should defend the
Constitution at all times to safeguard the country’s democracy.
He appealed to the media to be circumspect in their reportage,
saying their role was crucial to the sustenance of the democratic
dispensation.
Mr Tweneboa-Kodua called for peaceful co-existence among the
political parties and ethnic groups as the 2012 General Election
approached.
He asked supporters of the parties, especially the youth to
desist from violent acts that could plunge the nation into anarchy and
dent the admirable image it had carved for itself.
