It is obvious that investment is the most immediate economic good of a national economy. However, the objective of investment cannot be met if the proper infrastructure is not in place. With the right infrastructure in place, investors are motivated to seek for more investment opportunities to invest in the country, and bring about the comfortable movement of goods and services for economic growth. It provides a conducive environment for industrial advancement. Infrastructure like adequate energy supply, perfect lighting system, and good roads among others, are a source of encouragement for any meaningful investment undertaking.
Its is quite evident that The Gambia through the visionary initiatives of a dynamic leadership has in stock all these infrastructure, which in themselves can be regarded as factors of growth. This reality explains why more and more investors are eyeing the country on a daily basis. The recent move by GIEPA to introduce Indian investors to the wide economic openings in the country therefore manifests the commitment of our technocrats to ensuring the realisations of the ideals of our visionary leadership. Much more, economic development is a programme, a group of policies or activities that seek to improve the economic well-being and quality of life of a community and its citizens.
Ideally, it will create and retain jobs that facilitate growth and provide a stable tax base critical for a growing, progressive nation. Its achievements however, require long-term partnerships and strategies. Providing the Indians with the opportunity to become part of the investors exploiting the potentials of our economy is no doubt part of that long-term strategic partnership that the government seeks in its quest to guarantee sustainable economic growth.
Just as the Trade minister stated at the forum, it is certain that the Indian investors would find The Gambia an enterprising and safe haven for their investment ambitions. We are also optimistic that if they are willing to invest in the country, the government would give them all the necessary support and encouragement; they are also bound to experience the perfect Gambian hospitality.
After all, successful economic development affects everyone and doesn’t just happen. It takes time, strategic planning and most importantly, strong public-private partnership. The leadership of President Jammeh is utilising whatever means possible for the development of the country. More investors into the country is essential in complementing such an effort. We therefore say kudos to GIEPA for exposing The Gambia to the wider world.
