The 25-year-old found the target on 48 minutes in the second-leg of the club’s Europa League semifinal tie against Villarreal at El Madrigal in Spain on Thursday evening.
The newly crowned Portuguese champions lost the game 3-2 but progressed to the final 7-4 on aggregate after its 5-1 comeback victory in the first-leg at home last week.
It was Falcao’s 16th goal in the competition, enabling him to surpass Klinsmann’s record of 15 goals set in the 1995-96 season with European powerhouse Bayern Munich.
The Colombia international equaled the German legend’s record last week when he struck four times against the Spanish outfit in Portugal.
Falcao, who has netted three hat-tricks this season, will have the chance to increase his goal-tally in Europe when Porto take on fellow Portuguese side Braga in the final of the Europa League in Dublin on May 18.
