Theo Zwanziger, the head of the DFB (German FA), has backed FIFA president Sepp Blatter to remain in office for a fourth term in the June 1 presidential elections.
Blatter, who has been at the helm since 1998, is being challenged by Asian Football Confederation president Mohamed Bin Hammam, but Zwanziger has said he will support the Swiss supremo.
“We have the greatest respect for Bin Hammam, but Blatter is closer to us and he understands European football,” he is quoted as saying by France Football.
“This is why I think he will not only have the German vote, but the majority of votes. The DFB will support what is best for football, and we must look at what he has achieved during his presidency.”
The winner of the election will be announced at FIFA congress in Zurich next month.
