Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Real Madrid 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-finals to progress to the final at Wembley in London.
After winning the first-leg 2-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu last week, Barca drew the second-leg 1-1 at Camp Nou on Tuesday evening, bringing to an end to the span of four Clasicos in 18 days.
Goalkeeper Valdes was pleased with his team’s performance against their eternal rivals and told reporters: “It’s been a very tough few weeks. Madrid have been worthy rivals but we have been very intense in defense.”
The Spain international goalkeeper also praised his coach and enthused: “It is he Guardiola who brought us this far.”
On the subject of Lionel Messi being a decisive factor for them against Madrid after the Argentina international netted both the goals in the first leg, Valdes stated: “He has always been the best and will be for many years. We are fortunate to have him in our team.”
Barcelona last reached the final of the Champions League in 2008-09, defeating Manchester United 2-0.
