Szczesny: Backing Wenger

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny insists his team-mates are standing by Arsene Wenger, a manager he labels the ‘best in the world’.

The French tactician has come under renewed criticism due to their impending six-year trophy drought, although they still have an outside chance of landing the Premier League title.

Fresh question marks have been raised over whether Wenger is the man to bring silverware to the club in the coming seasons, but Szczesny, for one, is standing by his manager.

The Polish keeper, who has made 12 Premier League starts for the Gunners this term, believes the club’s long-serving tactician is the right man for the job and that his detractors are wrong.

Szczesny believes with a bit more patience the club will once again be winning titles and lifting silverware.

“It’s ridiculous. If you ask any of the players, we will all stand by the manager,” said Szczesny.

“He built this team from nothing and he’s the best manager in the world, so I don’t understand why anyone would want him to leave.

“We all take individual responsibilities for our mistakes and everyone has played their part in this season’s disappointments. I think we just have to take it as a team.

“You can’t blame the boss because he stood by the team all season and supported us.

“We have a young team and have a lot of years in front of us, and a lot of trophies to win.

“Let’s be patient and show next year we are good enough to win the league.”
