Smith: Could not hide excitement at Premier League return

Norwich joint majority shareholder Delia Smith admits that the club’s return to the Premier League feels like a dream.

Victory at Portsmouth on Monday night confirmed the Carrow Road outfit’s place in the Championship’s top two and a spot back in the top flight next season.

Manager Paul Lambert has now guided Norwich to back-to-back promotions since taking over a League One side in 2009.

And Smith confesses to being ‘absolutely ecstatic’, as she said: “What an amazing two years we have had.

“Paul has done a terrific job. He is the tops – and a brilliant manager.

“I am wondering whether I will wake up in the morning and all this has not happened.”

Lambert had himself described promotion to the Premier League as a ‘miracle’ in the wake of the win over Portsmouth.

“I think it’s unbelievable what’s happened here in the last two years,” the Scot told Sky Sports HD1

“It’s a miracle, that’s what it is. It’s an absolute miracle.

“I never thought this was going to happen. To come from League One and to do it back-to-back, honestly it’s a miracle that it’s happened.

“But the lads and that group of fans deserve it.”
