Vice-President Back Home After Attending Pope John Paul II’s Beatification

Luanda — The Vice-President of Angola, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos, on Sunday evening returned to the country, from Italy, after witnessing the beatification ceremony of Pope John Paul II, Angop has learnt.

In Rome, the senior Angolan official considered the Pope’s beatification as a historic and worthy moment, and brings great hope of a better world filled with love, peace and stability.

“A due homage was granted to a man that played an important role in the life of the population”, the Vice-President told the Angolan journalists at the end of the acclamation of the new devotee in the presence of about three million pilgrims from all over the world.

On his arrival at Luanda’s “4 de Fevereiro” International Airport, the Vice-President received welcome greetings from the ministers of Social Welfare, João Baptista Kussumua, of Transports, Augusto Tomás, and of Education, Mpinda Simão, among other officials.

In Luanda, Fernando da Piedade Dias dos Santos asserted that the presence of a top Angolan delegation at the beatification ceremony of Pope John Paul II shows the excellent relations with the Vatican.

John Paul II was born on 18 May 1920 and died on 2 April 2005.
