A UNIVERSITY of Zambia (UNZA) Lecturer of Development Studies Tiyaonse Kabwe has predicted a landslide victory for President Rupiah Banda.

Mr Kabwe, who is also former UNIP Central Committee chairperson for commerce and industry, said he was confident that President Banda would emerge victorious in this year’s elections because there was no credible opposition party with policies different from those of the MMD.

He said President Banda was a level-headed and mature leader whose leadership style had changed the politics in the country.

“I know Mr Banda very well, I worked with him in UNIP when he was the party’s central committee chairperson for international relations. The man is level-headed, mature, reliable man with humility and is committed to duty,” he said.

He commended the President for having continued with the developments initiated by the late President Levy Mwanawasa.”A good leader does not abandon development.

President Banda has continued with the development by ensuring that projects in all parts of the country are completed, thereby bettering the lives of millions of Zambians,” he said.

He said there was currently no credible opposition in the country as UNIP which was the country’s only credible opposition had also derailed.

“I am extremely disappointed with UNIP because it has lost its essence of being the only credible opposition party. UNIP has abandoned its stance.

We are totally lost and finished. We have lost track and I do not even go there anymore,” he said.

He observed that UNIP was renowned for Humanism, social welfare state and mixed economy policies among others and that it could not offer any alternative different approach to issues as it, like other parties, was talking about the same policies as MMD’s.

He has since advised President Banda to consolidate democracy and enforce political discipline among all political parties in the country so that violent acts were rooted out.
