Kenya: Rangers Request KPL to Postpone Match Against Ulinzi

Rangers FC have appealed to the Kenya Premier League to postpone their weekend league clash against champions Ulinzi Stars due to unavailability of players.

Deputy coach Mike Naam said he will be missing Joseph Nyaga, Jaffer Gichuki, Edward Mwaura, and Brian Mandela who are in the national team while skipper Pascal Ochieng has also been called to join the Under 23 side as one of the three “guest over-age” players mandated to turn up for the team. “We are missing the core of the team and I’m asking the KPL to postpone our game maybe to mid next week once we have all our players back in the team,” Naam said

The coach said because Ulinzi are a strong side they would not want to field a half strength side in the match. “We can’t afford to play with a second string team for the match. Ulinzi are playing well and if we do play them I can see us losing by a big margin,” he added.

Rangers are currently third in the standings with 17 points from eight matches and Naam says they want to continue playing well despite the lack of a sponsor for the team. “We want to continue with our good form. the boys are playing well and am confident we will be up there with the big boys, if we could to field our top team,” he said.

Naam added that they were concentrating on a top ten finish this season. “We have started the league well and we are looking at a top ten finish to ensure we stay in the league next season” the coach added. Rangers have set the league alight with wins over Gor Mahia and Sofapaka so far.
