MMD national secretary Richard Kachingwe has said Zambians have every right to reject the opposition because they have demonstrated that they have no capacity to run the central Government given their failure to manage local authorities.

And Major Kachingwe has expressed confidence that the ruling party would emerge victorious in this year’s elections because President Rupiah Banda’s Government had performed according to the people’s expectations.

He said in Lusaka yesterday that the opposition had lamentably failed to manage and run local authorities. “Zambians elected a lot of councilors from the opposition who have failed to deliver. How can they trust them again if they have failed at local government? How can they manage the central Government if they have failed at local government level?” he asked.

He said Zambians would not trust the opposition because they had continued to make fake promises which they could not fulfill. He said this year’s elections would be about the tangible things that people had done and not promises. “It is just that we have to fulfill our democratic requirement, otherwise we should just have allowed President Banda to continue because he has performed so well. “This year’s elections will be about performance.

President Banda will tell the people that I have done this, I have built this school, he will talk about the bumper harvest while the opposition will be busy making their usual fake promises which they will not even be able to fulfill,” he said.

He called upon the media to be issue-based in their reporting. Meanwhile, Maj Kachingwe dispelled assertions that President Banda had preferred candidates during the party’s national convention.

He said everyone was allowed to contest the elections.

Maj Kachingwe said President Banda had no preferred candidates for the various positions as insinuated by some people.â-¨He has since urged members of the ruling party to denounce violence and preach love ahead of the elections. Maj Kachingwe said he would want to preside over a well disciplined party. He said the ruling party had a well functioning government led by President Banda.
