Garbaharey — A large number of Somali interim government joined by fighters from moderate Sufi group on Thursday confiscated a key town in southern Somalia peacefully.
Reliable sources confirmed Shabelle that the control of Garbaharey town, the regional capital of Gedo region is right now in the hands of Somali forces after years in Al shabaab grip.
The capture of the town came after Al shabaab fighters on Wednesday night deserted Garbarahey, where former Somali president Mohamed Siad Bare was born, after facing them a very dreadful condition.
The governor of Gedo region under TFG, Mohamed Abdi Kalil told Shabelle that his forces are now in control of Gedo’s provincial town.
He said that his forces allied with Ahlu Sunna Waljama will keep on tracing Al shabaab until Somalia falls in TFG control.
Al shabaab officials have not released any comments about Garbaharey capture so far.
