Agra Supports Otavi Community

29 April 2011 A team of four officials from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) and the Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT) have expressed satisfaction with the progress made in less than five years at three resettlement villages. These villages include Otjomuru, Otjikojo and Ohaiuua where the Ovatue and Ovatjimba communities have been resettled. The aim was to conduct a training needs analysis and monitoring the general progress at the Ovatue and Ovatjimba settlements in the Kunene region.

Agra has become a partner of the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust (OOCT). The aim of the OOCT is to improve living conditions of the people in Otavi and the region.

“Agra recognises the important contribution of Ohorongo Cement to Namibia’s economy and Vision 2030 and appreciates the way they take up of their role as a corporate citizen. Agra is committed to do justice to the triple bottom-line approach which embraces economic, social and environmental issues. Through their corporate social investment Agra wants to make a difference through partnerships with community groups, suppliers and employees,” the company said in a statement.

At the handover of Agra’s membership certificate, Hans-Wilhelm Schütte, managing director of Ohorongo Cement stated: “I am delighted to have Agra on board as partner to the Ohorongo Otavi Community Trust. Agra and Ohorongo both are ‘citizens’ of Otavi and have the town’s development close at heart.”
