Sekibo seeks annulment of Amaechi’s election

The Rivers State governorship candidate of the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, Dr. Abiye Sekibo, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to cancel the results of Tuesday’s gubernatorial and state House of Assembly elections.

But the winner of the gubernatorial election, Governor Rotimi Amaechi, has called on all the candidates who lost to “join hands with the government to the next level.”

Sekibo, who alleged that the election was fraught with irregularities, called for a fresh election in the state, insisting that the Assembly election was equally hijacked by the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in all the local government areas.

Also, the President of Trade Union Congress, TUC, Mr.Peter Esele, has called for the arrest and prosecution of the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Mr. Celestine Omehia, for allegedly ordering an attack on him and a police inspector, Mr. Josiah Udo, at Omehia’s country-home, Ubima.

However, the state’s governorship candidate of ACN in the 2007 election, Prince Tonye Princewill,has hailed Amaechi’s victory, saying that the feat had placed the state on the path of a new dawn.
