Kwadwo Addai also slashed his throat in an attempt to commit suicide after his failed bid to kill the wife.
The Mim District Police Commander, DSP Oduru Abrokwa, in an interview with DAILY GUIDE, confirmed the story and said both wife and husband were at the Goaso and the Sunyani hospitals respectively receiving treatment.
According to DSP Abrokwa, Kwadwo Addai, the husband of Victoria Kumi, had for sometime now suspected his wife, whom he has three children with, of having extra marital affairs. He said on April 23 2011, he tried to take his own life, by attempting to drink a poisonous substance, over the matter.
He said in the process of drinking the substance, the wife saw him and intervened.
Victoria later reported the matter to the Mim police. DSP Abrokwa said when he tried to deploy police personnel to effect the husband’s arrest, she told the police the husband had gone to the farm so she would call them when he returned. But she did not call until the next day, when she went to the police station to report again that the husband had shot a catapult at her breast.
He noted that the police issued a medical form to her so she would go to the hospital, adding that they tried to go and arrest the man but the wife again said he was not at home and that she would call them when he came around.
DSP Abrokwah mentioned that on the third day when the lady was on a footpath from their village to see her dad at the next village with her baby, the husband, who was by then hiding in the bush, pounced on her and started slashing her with the machete, so the woman threw her baby into the bush.
According to him, the lady shouted for help, which attracted the attention of some farmers at a nearby farm, who came to her rescue.
He said by then, the husband had absconded after inflicting ghastly machete wounds on the woman.
The farmers took her to the hospital, without realizing that her baby was in the bush. It wasn’t until the next day when the inhabitants of Asukese went to look for the man that they found the baby sleeping alone in the bush with the mum’s severed fingers.
He said the people reported their find to the police who went to take the fingers, now being kept at the Goaso mortuary.
DSP Abrokwa stated that on April 27, 2011, inhabitants of Asukese, in their search, found the husband trying to commit suicide with a machete by slashing his throat.
He said the people arrested him and handed him over to the police where he was given police medical form to receive medical treatment under police guard.
DSP Abrokwa said the man would be arraigned as soon as he recovered, for attempted murder, suicide and causing unlawful harm.
