The two sides met at the Veltins-Arena on Tuesday night, and the Red Devils managed to emerge victorious thanks to goals from Ryan Giggs and Wayne Rooney.
The Scot was so impressed with what he saw in Germany that he compared it to one of United’s famous victories, against Juventus in 1999.
At the time, the Red Devils were trailing by two goals in Turin, but came back to win the game with a 3-2 score line and reach the final.
“We’ve had some fantastic performances in Europe,” said Sir Alex, according to The Mirror. “But I think it’s certainly one of the best, yes.
“Juventus will always be high on the list, but I think this ranks up there too. I was delighted. It was a top performance. Credit to the players and their belief in each other. It was a tremendous performance.”
