DAR ES SALAAM eleven cricketers laid their hands on the trophy in the inaugural Regional U-17 tournament following a three-wicket victory over Uluguru Stars in the final played at the Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) venue in Morogoro earlier this week.
The Dar es Salaam youngsters’ triumph underlined the region’s dominance in domestic cricket stretched to almost all other Tanzania Cricket Association (TCA)-sanctioned competitions.
They won the toss and opted to field, putting their opponent in to bat first but the
latter failed to make full use of the innings despite playing at the familiar pitch.
Uluguru Stars managed to post 75 runs for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs to give themselves a rather huge task of limiting their opponents to a much lower score thereafter, a task they failed to fulfill.
Dar es Salaam Eleven, on reply, batted aggressively to reach the target for seven wickets with two balls remaining in their innings and their batting performance proved the chase was hardly easy.
Uluguru Stars’ coach, Rashid Amri, praised his charges for battling hard in the final despite losing, adding that little technical mistakes they committed were fully utilized by their opponents.
“My players played well in all aspects and a few mistakes they committed eventually contributed to their defeat”, said Amri.
