Maize Funds Set Aside

Msanzala Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Daka has said the Government has set aside funds to buy maize from farmers during this year’s agricultural marketing season.

Mr Daka said the Government through the Food Reserve Agency had set aside funds to buy maize from all farmers in Zambia and would continue to mobilise more resources.

He said the Government was happy that several farmers benefited from Fertiliser Input Support Programme (FISP) and was hopeful Zambia would produce another maize bumper harvest this year.

Mr Daka who is Science, Technology and Vocational Training Minister said President Rupiah Banda would continue to initiate empowerment programmes to improve agriculture sector to increase the Zambia’s food security.

He said this in Msanzala yesterday when he addressed hundreds of people that converged at St Damiano Catholic Church at Mwanza out station congregation.

“Most parts of Zambia are expected to produce bumper maize harvest and I want to assure you the Government has set aside billions of Kwacha for maize purchase exercise through FRA. We want to empower you more by buying all your maize not only here in Petauke but countrywide,” Mr Daka said.

He urged the gathering to embrace the spirit of togetherness and pray for peace especially that Zambia would this year hold elections and that unity was fundamental for development.

Mr Daka appealed to the gathering to condemn politics of insults being agitated by some political leaders.

He urged them to remain focused and not be influenced to be engaged in bad vices.

He said 2011 was a crucial year and people should rally behind dedicated leadership of Mr Banda and the MMD Government judging on its many developmental projects being carried out in Zambia.

St Damiano Catholic Church priest in charge Father Bonaventure Kamulewa urged the church to stand firm and denounce evil spirits especially during this year’s elections.

And Petauke District Commissioner Jacob Mwanza thanked Mr Daka for working hard to uplift livelihoods of Msanzala residents and joining them in prayer and fellowship.
