Kristafor Hails South Chiefs

Former Information and Broadcasting minister Stan Kristafor has praised traditional leaders in Southern Province for their unanimous decision to support and endorse the re-election of President Rupiah Banda in the 2011 tripartite elections.

And the Livingstone Pastors Fellowship has also commended several traditional leaders in Zambia for rallying behind the leadership of President Banda.

Rev Kristafor, who served under second Republican president Frederick Chiluba’s administration, said it was gratifying to hear that all the 41 chiefdoms in the Southern Province had come out in full support of Mr Banda and the MMD in this year’s elections.

Speaking in Livingstone in an interview, Rev Kristafor said the outline of development programmes which President Banda’s administration had undertaken in Southern Province and the rest of Zambia were there for all people to see.

He urged people in Southern Province and Zambia in general to vote for President Banda and the MMD for continued development of Zambia.

Rev Kristaforsaid Zambia had a good image abroad and that many genuine investors were investing substantially in the country.

He said once President Banda and the MMD were re-elected, people would be assured of accelerated development while many job opportunities would be created.

Last week, all 41 chiefdoms of Southern Province upheld their 2008 resolution which has never been revoked to support President Banda for a second term and thanked him for all the development programmes he has brought to the province.

The resolutions of the Southern Province royal highnesses followed their consultative meeting which was held in Mazabuka on April 19, 2011 at which President Banda officially opened the meeting.

Southern Province Royal Foundation chairperson Munokalya Mukuni said the traditional leaders were happy with the development initiatives that had been put up by the Government under the leadership of President Banda.

Chief Mukuni also said the chiefs embraced and welcomed wholeheartedly the launch and the provision of the modern mobile hospitals as most of their subjects were in rural and remote areas and could not easily get to the hospitals.

In a related development, the Livingstone Pastors Fellowship has commended traditional leaders in Zambia for rallying behind the leadership of President Banda.

Pastors’ Fellowship chairperson Eric Jere said it was important for traditional leaders to work with the Government if meaningful development was to take place in Zambia.

“It is very good that there is good rapport and dialogue between Government and the chiefs at the moment and this will definitely lead to development,” Reverend Jere said.

He urged Zambians to beware of some opposition political party leaders that were bent on destroying Zambia.
