Kenya Commercial Bank have promised gold medallists from Sunday’s world cross country championships in Punta Umbria, Spain Sh300,000 each. The bank’s chief executive officer Martin Otieno said silver medals will be worth Sh200,000 and bronze Sh100,000.

If Kenya win the overall team title the team will share Sh300,000 equally amongst themselves, he added. Kenya will be defending the eight titles they won last year in Poland.”We have offered you a small incentive to help Kenya win the title again and I know you will not disappoint at the event,” Otieno added.

Team captain Mathew Kisorio said the athletes were ready to conquer the world and retain all the titles for the team. “We are ready. We have trained hard and now we are looking forward to the event and to bringing the titles home,” Kisorio said.

He said they were not scared of anyone including the Ethiopians and that all teams were running scared of the Kenya team.”From what I have gathered they want to know who is in the Kenya team but for that they have to wait and see,” Kisorio added.

Coach David Letting said an advanced party had travelled ahead to Spain to prepare for the team.
