The newly elected AFC Leopards Sports Club executive committee has appointed veteran sports marketer Richard Ekhalie to the position of chief executive officer (CEO) and head of marketing. The appointment takes effect from March 15 and will see the former secretary general of the club take the centre stage in formulating and implementing practical policies to the satisfaction of the Committee- including but not limited to financial planning, strategy development and staffing plans. Doubling as the head of marketing, the CEO will also play a pivotal role in managing commercial partnerships plus the club’s brand image. Ekhalie served as the club’s secretary General in 2009 and played a key role in re-energising the club’s brand from relegation back in 2008. It was Ekhalie who engineered the club’s re-branding and eventual re-launch in early 2009 that propelled an instant interest in the club. He is credited for initiating the club merchandise culture in the country that is now the talk of town. He has massive interests in Sportsbiz Limited, a premier sports marketing and management company headquartered in Nairobi. Meanwhiel AFC Leopards will be playing a number of their home matches this season at the Mumias Sugar Company’s sports complex. They begin this weekend with the tie against Karuturi Sports. Mumias Sugar Company are the sponsors of AFC Leopards.
